DESCRIPTION:
EU’s Censorship on Freedom of Speech: Echoes of Fascist Repression in War Propaganda is an analytical and documentary study of the European Union’s contemporary censorship regime, with particular focus on the Digital Services Act (DSA) and its enforcement through dominant digital platforms such as Google Search and YouTube.
The book argues that the DSA has evolved from a regulatory instrument into a political mechanism for suppressing dissent, restricting access to information, and shaping public opinion in favor of militarization and war. Drawing on empirical evidence—including comparative search-engine results, screenshots, and quantitative discrepancies—the study documents systematic shadow banning and content suppression targeting scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals critical of EU leadership, NATO expansion, and pro-war narratives surrounding Ukraine.
Situating these practices within a historical framework, the book compares present-day EU censorship with earlier authoritarian models in Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, particularly the use of information control to silence opposition and normalize rearmament. Special attention is given to the role of Russophobia as a legitimizing ideology for censorship, sanctions against culture and media, and the erosion of Article 19 protections under international human rights law.
Combining political theory, media analysis, human rights law, and original quantitative documentation, the book challenges prevailing claims that EU censorship is a defensive response to “disinformation.” Instead, it presents censorship as a structural component of a broader war strategy that undermines democratic accountability, freedom of expression, and the public’s right to information.
